Here in Ottawa, there has historically been a shortage of full-day summer camps for children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)... but fortunately, that’s where a wonderful charitable organization like Children At Risk comes in!
Unlike many charities in the capital city and country-wide, Children At Risk does not receive any dedicated, sustainable, or renewable funding at the federal, provincial, or multinational level, and therefore must rely on fundraising events, donations, grants, and sponsorships. Lone Star HOPE SummerFest 2026 is proud to provide a portion of the money raised to Children At Risk, and specifically, their Camp Kaleidoscope.
For the 14 years Camp Kaleidoscope has operated, there have been an average of 232 weekly slots for campers every year. This camp gives the parents of children affected by ASD some much-needed respite, while the children themselves get to have the fun summer camp experience they deserve.
The campers who take part in this program are often from “priority” families, which includes new immigrants, families with disabilities, visible minorities, and Indigenous families.
