Fun Facts with the Centre for Treatment of Sexual Abuse and Childhood Trauma!

It’s no secret that therapy can be very expensive, especially trauma-informed therapy. The extra training often comes with higher costs and some low-cost therapy options do not offer trauma-informed care. That’s why we’re so excited to share some fun facts from one of our HOPE Volleyball SummerFest charities… The Centre for Treatment of Sexual Abuse and Childhood Trauma (CTSACT).

They provide trauma-informed care in the therapy realm with sliding scale individual and couples sessions plus a Trauma Processing group offered at a low cost by compassionate and specialized mental health practitioners. They make healing your trauma much more accessible for people who can’t afford the full cost.

A truly impressive community impact

The healing work CTSACT provides goes beyond just their patients. They have helped hundreds of Master’s Degree students become fully registered, trauma-informed therapists. Those therapists go on to improve the lives of their patients over their entire career, which creates a powerful ripple effect of healing. Plus, every healed person can positively impact their community when they become a caring friend and partner who can help others heal. Their team has also improved the quality of trauma-informed care in prominent organizations like The Ottawa Hospital and the University of Ottawa.

One of the shining gems of their offerings is their Trauma Processing Group Therapy. CTSACT operates groups for men, women and 2SLGBTQIA+ people — so everyone can feel seen. To a very low-income person, sliding scale therapy may still be more than they could afford but their program only charges a small one-time admin fee for their 14-week journey together. We love affordable mental health support.

People attend this group virtually from across the country. Group therapy offers a powerful healing moment. People who have been traumatized can often feel isolated, like they're the only person who can understand what they’ve been through. But people with similar lived experiences get it and have coped in similar ways. In this group, they can heal together.

Sadly, their Trauma Processing group suffers from long waitlists because of high demand in the community. You can support the Centre for Treatment of Sexual Abuse and Childhood Trauma in this year’s HOPE Volleyball SummerFest. By doing so, they will be able to expand their Trauma Processing group so more people can get the care they need to thrive sooner.
