There are lots of ways to serve at HOPE other than from the service line.

Get involved in the world's biggest beach volleyball tournament and help HOPE reach its fundraising goals for charity. We need scores of volunteers. Check out how you can help here.

Volunteers who have registered and already received their confirmations, please note that the Volunteer Orientation date has been changed to Thursday, June 25 at the RA Centre.

All HOPE volunteers receive:

Court Set-up (Friday) Sign Me Up!

  • Assemble and install nets, poles and ropes
  • Tighten nets, pound stakes, install signs and scoreboards, etc
  • Direction provided by HOPE Court Set-Up Committee

This job is a physical, labour-intensive job

Signage Set-Up & Signage Tear Down Sign Me Up!

Involves light walking with assistance from a "gator" and/or "golf cart". This role requires some heavy lifting and closed toe shoes are recommended.

Logistics Site Set-Up (Friday) Sign Me Up!

  • Set-up tents, tables, chairs and signage around the beach
  • Move and position temporary fencing and barricades
  • Direction provided by HOPE Logistics Committee

This job is a physical, labour-intensive job

Security Sign Me Up!

Security volunteers provide a visible security presence and help monitor the event grounds and entrances. Training will be provided during an orientation night before the event. Security will work in a buddy system, so why not bring a friend along? As a security volunteer you will:

  • Assist professional security in and around the event site
  • Greet attendees at site entrances, provide site information and directions, inform attendees of site regulations

Volleyball Referees - Corporate and Competitive Sign Me Up!

Come on out and blow the whistle. There's no experience necessary; training will be provided. For those with volleyball experience, consider Competitive Division refereeing, where you'll be in the thick of the action. All courts will have a group coordinator to assist you, and court runners are also available for support. As a referee, you will:

  • Start games on time, maintain score sheets and ensure games are played according to HOPE tournament rules
  • Calculate scores to determine which teams are in the playoffs and inform team captains

Information (Referees) Sign Me Up!

These volunteers, like the Information Booth Volunteers, will end up knowing almost everything there is to know about the HOPE Volleyball SummerFest. With your thorough knowledge of site logistics and event programming, game schedules, team captains, team names, court numbers, entertainment schedule, etc. you will:

  • Set up, maintain and close general information desk operating from within the Referee tents
  • Support the Referee Committee by fielding general questions from players, visitors, etc.
  • Provide information on tournament rules, how the court winners are determined, playoff schedules, etc.

Court Runners Sign Me Up!

Court runners support the referees and court coordinators by running information, water, equipment, etc. to and from the volunteer/referee tent. Court runners also:

  • Circulate through a designated beach area regularly to ensure needs are being met
  • Assist other HOPE volunteers to ensure the day is fun for everyone involved

Volunteer Tent Sign Me Up!

Volunteers staffing the Volunteer Tent provide assistance and information to all other event volunteers (approximately 1,000). You will register volunteers, hand out T-shirts, lunch coupons and site maps, and help volunteers quickly locate their work area or contact person. You'll be busy, but you'll have fun.

Information / Registration Booth Sign Me Up!

These volunteers will end up knowing almost everything there is to know about the HOPE Volleyball SummerFest. With your thorough knowledge of site logistics and event programming, game schedules, team captains, team names, court numbers, entertainment schedule, etc. you will:

  • Support the team registration process (morning shift only)
  • Field various questions from visitors
  • Maintain a Lost and Found
  • Maintain a bulletin board of spare players and players wanted
  • Maintain information booths and help close them at day's end (afternoon shift only)

Meet-and-Greet Sign Me Up!

Make your smiling face the first one they'll see. Greet players and spectators at site entrances, distribute Official Guides, and provide info and directions as required.

Food Distribution Sign Me Up!

Working in conjunction with Food Unloading, you'll assist in distributing the prepared lunches from the the Grill Master trailer to the pick up tables, as needed. Want to build those biceps or keep cool? You can also unload and can carry cases of water from the reefer truck to the pick up tables.

Food Unloading Sign Me Up!

Volunteers at this station help set up the lunch area and oversea the pick up of the prepared lunches and beverages to 10,000 hungry participants.

Site Maintenance Sign Me Up!

Pick-up garbage and recycling items on the beach, in the park and in the surrounding neighbourhood

Beer Garden and HOT 89.9 Lounge Sign Me Up!

Volunteers in the beer garden will be part of a large team selling tickets and serving beer, liquor and refreshments. Note: All Beer Garden volunteers must be 19 years of age or older and should be trained in SmartServe®.

Wild Card Sign Me Up!

Pack your running shoes, sun screen, hat and an open mind! You will find out your assignment once you arrive at the Volunteers tent but you could be helping out in a short-staffed area doing anything from Security or Court Running to Site Maintenance. Due to restrictions around SmartServe certification, Wild Card volunteers will not be assigned to the Bar areas.
